Kelly Space & Technology Opens East Coast Operation in Rhode Island

The Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation (RIEDC) today announced that Kelly Space & Technology, Inc., a San Bernardino-based California company focusing on aerospace, energy and homeland security technologies, is establishing an East Coast operation in Rhode Island. As production commences over the next year, Kelly estimates its Rhode Island facility will house approximately 50 employees.

Rhode Island Takes Center Stage in Effort to Improve Elder Care

Rhode Island’s Business Innovation Factory is partnering with the Tockwotton Home, Quality Partners of Rhode Island and the MIT AgeLab to create a real-world laboratory for developing and testing new solutions, products and models for improving elderly care. Leveraging the BIF Experience Lab platform, the "Nursing Home of the Future" will create a platform for innovators and industry partners to transform current approaches to elderly care in assisted living and nursing care facilities. Outcomes from the Rhode Island-based work will enable project partners to test big-win solutions in a manageable environment and then to scale those ideas nationally.

Caprio Partners with RI-WINs to Show Benefits of Border-to-Border Broadband Wireless Network for R.I.

General Treasurer Frank Caprio announced his support for the statewide rollout of the Rhode Island Wireless Innovation Networks (RI-WINs), an effort to make Rhode Island the first state in the country with a border-to-border wireless broadband network. In addition to pledging support, Caprio is putting the network to the test, making his the first executive office to directly use the RI-WINs network.

Student Inventors Strut Stuff at FIRST Vex Challenge

The sights and sounds were reminiscent of a sporting event: referees donning black and white apparel, bleachers filled with an electrified crowd and an announcer's booming voice. But this was no basketball game. This was the FIRST Vex Challenge tournament, a program where high school students built working robots and put their creations to the test in a head-to-head competition. The March 31 event was an important milestone for those working to make Rhode Island the first state to offer Vex to each of its public high schools.

Wireless Project Takes Center Stage at Newport Event

The Newport Chamber of Commerce, and its Board of Directors, announced its full support for the statewide rollout of the Rhode Island Wireless Innovation Networks (RI-WINs), an effort to make Rhode Island the first state in the country with a border-to-border broadband network. The chamber joins a broad coalition of supporters who have endorsed RI-WINs, including organizations like Hasbro, FM Global, City Year, the Rhode Island Department of Health, The Rhode Island Foundation, CCRI, Rite Solutions, Johnson & Wales University, the Providence Warwick Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Rhode Island School of Design.
