Portsmouth Firm A2B Tracking Solutions Wins GSA Contract Award

Contract worth up to $70 Million; Firm to expand, add jobs
Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy (D-RI) and U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) announced today that Portsmouth-based A2B Tracking Solutions Inc. has been awarded a U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) contract, in support of the U.S. Air Force, under the Department of Defense’s Unique Identification (UID) program. The firm, which has already received its first three orders from the Air Force, has been awarded a contract to implement the UID systems and services for various DoD departments that is worth up to $70 million.
“Today’s announcement that A2B Tracking Solutions has been awarded this sizeable contract is tremendous news for this firm and for the state. It is exciting that a Rhode Island firm is on the cutting edge of this initiative which aims to improve efficiency for defense operations at all levels. Most exciting, however, is that the firm will be looking to expand its manufacturing space in Rhode Island and adding jobs here as a result of this federal contract. I commend the efforts of the leadership team at A2B Tracking which has worked so hard on this initiative,” said Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy.
“A2B was awarded this competitive federal contract because its tracking services will help the military save time and the taxpayers save money,” said Senator Jack Reed, a member of both the Armed Services and Appropriations committees. “At a time when many companies are laying off workers, it is good to see innovative firms like A2B creating jobs and increasing operations here in Rhode Island. I will continue doing everything I can to promote job growth and expand opportunities for Rhode Island companies that do business with the federal government.”
A2B Tracking has been working with the DoD and various defense contractors to provide data management software that includes the production of labels as well as verifying that the labels meet rigid specifications and uploading the information to the DoD's IUID Registry. In addition to eliminating waste in government, the IUID Registry system will enable defense staff to quickly locate equipment and parts and analyze the data to determine the effectiveness of a piece of equipment or its various components, ultimately helping to identify and resolve issues. This might include locating the nearest part to fix a particular piece of equipment on a tank in the field or determining whether the manufacturing specifications for a particular component need to be modified.
