Rhode Island to Host First Ever Supply Chain Management Summit

Global leaders in supply chain management, university and state officials gather to discuss latest trends in supply chain management
On Friday, June 20, 2008, the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation (RIEDC), Rhode Island Manufacturing Extension Services (RIMES), Bryant University’s Chafee Center for International Business and Banneker Industries, Inc. will be hosting the first ever RI Supply Chain Management (SCM) Summit. The RI-SCM Summit will bring together both the public and private sectors to promote best practices of SCM within the state as well as highlight the expertise and resources available in SCM to RI institutions. The event will be held from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at the George E. Bello Center for Information Technology at Bryant University in Smithfield, RI.
SCM is the process of planning, implementing and controlling the operations of the supply chain as effectively as possible and is one of the fastest growing business sectors in the new global economy.
Kevin Smith, Senior Vice-President of Supply Chain & Logistics for CVS/pharmacy will give the Luncheon Keynote “The History & Future of Supply Chain Management in RI”. He is Senior Vice President of Supply Chain & Logistics for CVS/pharmacy, the retail arm of CVS Caremark, America’s #1 pharmacy and healthcare services provider. CVS Caremark generates over $80B in revenue and dispenses over 1 billion prescriptions by mail in over 6,300 stores in 44 states. His role at CVS has been to facilitate changes in the overall Supply Chain and create highly responsive end-to-end fulfillment processes.
Other Summit Speakers include Executives and Subject Matter Experts from some of Rhode Island’s most successful businesses and leading organizations including Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems, Lifespan, Amgen, UPS, The Allied Group, Lighthouse Computer Services and Code Red Business Continuity Services among others.
