Workforce Development

Overview

In Rhode Island we're looking ahead to the evolving needs of your business -- which means keeping the workforce up to date with the latest developments in your field. And that means you and your employees win together right now, and build a future here. EDC will assist you in cost-effectively recruiting and training a workforce that will enhance your competitiveness. In partnership with the Governor's Workforce Board, programs are here to provide qualified businesses with funding for worker training. Training Grants and other programs offered through Workforce Development can:

  • Provide grants for up to 50% of the approved cost, including trainees’ salaries, to train a growing workforce.
  • Assist businesses in applying for matching grants, up to $50,000, for retraining and upgrading skills for existing employees.
  • Assist companies in development and implementation of pre-employment and on-the-job training programs utilizing federal training grants.
  • Provide grants to train employees for export market development.
  • Assist with tax credits of up to $5,000 per employee for 50% of approved training costs.
